Job Summary: The Intermediate Level I Fire Apparatus Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of fire apparatus,
rescue vehicles, and related equipment. This position requires technical training, knowledge, experience and skills in fire apparatus pump
systems, Command Zone/multiplex systems, aerial ladder repairs/testing/maintenance, electrical diagnosis and repairs,
engine and chassis repairs/maintenance and inspection including the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Incumbents may be assigned to perform mobile diagnosis and repairs in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on fire apparatus and rescue equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.
- Conduct inspections and testing of fire apparatus to ensure compliance with NFPA standards and other state/federal regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and repair fire pumps and related components, aerial devices, hydraulic systems, foam systems, powertrain and chassis systems, generators, and other specialized equipment.
- Replace or repair faulty components and systems to ensure operational readiness.
- Diagnose and repair fire apparatus steering, chassis, brake, and suspension systems.
- Perform BIT inspections as required.
Inspections and Testing:
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of fire apparatus to ensure compliance with NFPA standards and local/state/federal regulations.
- Document inspection results and identify any deficiencies or areas needing improvement.
